Wild Animals ArticleSteve Irwin, known as “The Crocodile Hunter,” managed Australia Zoo and shared his passion for wildlife with his wife, Terri, and their children, Bindi and Robert. Although Steve passed away in 2006, his legacy continues through his family. Bindi’s young daughter is already showing a love for wildlife, reflecting the family’s ongoing dedication to conservation.
Bright Side admires how Steve’s family carries forward his mission and affection for all living creatures.
Steve Irwin grew up surrounded by reptiles and wildlife, as his parents founded a reptile park in 1970. His deep connection with animals, particularly reptiles and crocodiles, was a central part of his life, as he lived on the zoo grounds with his family.
Today, Robert Irwin follows in his father’s footsteps as a wildlife photographer and conservationist. He is passionate about educating others on the importance of preserving the natural world and shares a similar affinity for crocodiles as his father did.
Bindi Irwin, a conservationist who still resides at Australia Zoo, continues to advocate for wildlife protection. She has met with royalty to discuss the conservation of the Great Barrier Reef and is committed to her father’s mission.
Bindi met Chandler Powell, a wakeboarder, in 2013 at Australia Zoo. They married in 2020 and welcomed their daughter, Grace Warrior, in 2021. Bindi is sharing her love for wildlife with Grace, just as Steve did with her.
Bindi wrote about Grace’s bond with Fergo, a cassowary chick, and shared touching moments from Grace’s first birthday, which was celebrated with various animals.
Robert Irwin also shared photos from Grace’s birthday, highlighting their celebration with family and the zoo community. Bindi expressed how much of a joy it is to see Grace grow and how she believes her father is watching over her granddaughter as a guardian angel.
Bindi has noted that Grace enjoys watching videos of her “Grandpa Crocodile,” and she cherishes the connection Grace has with Steve’s legacy.
